His columns are translated and appear in business media across the Asia Pacific region. Before his current position, Mr. Clayton served as editor of the flagship IHS Maritime Fairplay magazine and also launched Fairplay’s Daily News service. He has traveled extensively around the world to report on the changing shipping business—experience that has enhanced his understanding of how shipping works, its strengths and challenges, its vision and its shortcomings. The son and grandson of British shipbrokers, he holds degrees from the universities of Lancaster and Plymouth, UK. Mr. Clayton believes journalists and analysts have a significant role to play in shipping, not as observers but as participants. He demonstrates this principle by frequently speaking at global maritime industry events.
